Name: Alucard (aka Vlad III, Vlad Dracul - which in modern Romanian means “devil” but in his time it also meant “dragon” or “demon” and the name it self means Son of the Dragon - and Vlad Tepes - translated as Vlad the Impaler )
Age: 531 ( 576 if you count the years he was alive) - appears to be in his 20’s or 30’s
Species: Vampire*
History: (‘tis very long, but hey, he’s over 500 years old, what do you want?)
Vlad was born in Transylvania, during the winter of 1431. He was the second son of his father Vlad Dracul and his mother Princess Cneajna of Moldavia. He had an older brother (by one year) Mircea and a younger brother (by six years) Radu. Although his native country was Wallachia to the south, the family lived in exile in Transylvania as his father had been ousted by pro-Ottoman boyars. . At the age of five, Vlad was initiated into the Order of the Dragon, a group dedicated to protecting the Royal Family.
When he was 14, Vlad's father was under considerable political pressure from the Ottoman sultan. Threatened with invasion, he gave up his two younger sons as hostages. Vlad was tortured, beaten and raped and was often whipped for being stubborn and rude at the hands of the Ottomans as was his younger brother until he caught the eye of the Sultan’s son and was made his lover. He developed a hatred for Radu and for Mehmed, the Sultan‘s son. His hatred also grew for his father who had given him to the Ottomans in the first place.
When Vlad was 16, his father was killed as was his older brother who’d been blinded and buried alive by their political enemies. The Ottomans put Vlad on the throne of Wallachia merely as a puppet ruler to protect their political power in that area.
Shortly before his 20th birthday, Vlad fled and was put under the protection of his uncle. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, his uncle was assassinated and Vlad was forced to flee to Hungary, where he was welcomed.
In 1456, Vlad invaded Wallachia and became prince of his native land and the early part of his career was spent eliminating potential threats to his power. This included his younger brother who had been sent to take the throne in Wallachia. Vlad was chased into Transylvania where he was imprisoned for four years. During this time he adopted Catholicism and occupied his time by captured birds and mice and torturing them.
Once he was released, Vlad returned to Wallachia and claimed it once again. He was killed shortly there after in a battle to keep his home.
Then, the deal was made. Vlad made a deal with the devil to live forever with the condition of having to drink the blood of humans to maintain that life. Already a cruel man, Vlad had no problem with this deal and he became the man we more commonly know as Dracula.**
For the next 400 years, Dracula terrorized the Transylvanian country-side. But, in 1895, he made the mistake of traveling to Britain threatening a young girl by the name of Mina Harker. He was defeated by a man by the name of Abraham Van Helsing (whose name would later be shortened to Hellsing) and another deal was made. The choice now lay before him. Dracula could either die once and for all or become a slave to Van Helsing, aiding him in his crusade against evil. Needless to say, he took the deal which was sealed by a curse of sorts, which would require him to remain a servant to the Hellsing family until his death or they saw fit to release him. Turning the tables, he also turned his name and was henceforth known as Alucard.
For the following 100 years, the Hellsings used and trained their new weapon whenever they needed him, and soon, their focus began to lie on making him the most advanced vampire known to man, by any means necessary.
Seeing the end of her family at hand, Integra Hellsing made the choice to pass her family’s weapon on to the Watcher’s Council, unsure of what Alucard would do if he were released. The Watcher’s Council, seeking to have his servitude more permanent had the seal that bound Alucard to the Hellsing family tattooed onto his hands. This new acquisition of theirs was kept secret and few knew about the destructive power the Watcher’s Council had locked away until he escaped. What his true intentions are, are still unclear.
Personality: Alucard is EXTREMELY egotistical and will belittle people for no reason whatever. And, during any fight he will purposely restrain himself to give his opponent a false sense of strength before he completely overwhelms them. But, he does disapprove of killing without purpose. Beneath is thingyy, dark and arrogant attitude, Alucard is in fact envious of humans, for unlike him, they are able to die and he has come to see life as being precious only if it can be taken from you. It is rarely seen, but glimmers of regretting his choice to become immortal can be seen by those who take the time to see him as something that was once human. However, he does not hate his immortality. Instead, he sees it as a gift that must be earned and he feels he took it rather than earned it.
Appearance: Alucard is relatively tall and skinny, though well muscled, with dark hair that has a tendency to hang in his eyes. His eyes are red and often glow. Updating slightly with the times, he often wears a dark suit and red tie (white undershirt, obviously) but he also has a red trench coat that he wears on occasion. He also has a pair of red sunglasses that he is rarely seen without. On each of his hands a pentacle is tattooed. Around it is a circle bearing the words “Hell‘s Gate Arrested,” “Gott mit uns,” “Shine Heaven Now” and “HELLSING” these things also surrounded by various occult symbols.
Sample RP:
It was dark. Everything was black. Normally he liked the dark, but this was different. Here he felt alone. In this blackness there was nothing. Not even eyes that have evolved to see in the dark can adjust when there is no light to adjust to. There was nothing. Not even his own heart beat. He screamed and his eyes flared as the holy seal they had permanently marked him with burned at his flesh. His hands twitched and convulsed as he waited for the pain to dull. How long he waited he wasn’t sure and he felt it very likely that he’d passed out several times. But, eventually, Alucard mustered up the strength the climb to his feet. He stood still, having no idea how big this small hell they’d put him in was. His bright red eyes glowed in the dark. Slowly they focused and he could see now. He reached out and touched the wall. Instantly the gesture was returned with a painful burn. They’d blessed the walls. They weren’t as stupid as he’d hoped.
Growling, Alucard sat back down on the floor. In these few moments where he’d been able to think clearly, Alucard had come to two conclusions. One, this “Watcher’s Council” was darker than its faced showed. And two, he had to get out of here at whatever cost.
Secret Word: BOO!
*Due to various experimentation/ forced evolution done to him by the Hellsing family, Alucard’s abilities are beyond that of the typical vampire. These abnormalities are:
-Strength that surpasses normal vampires
-Great accuracy (aka The Third Eye)
-The ability turn into a hellhound named Baskerville (in serveral different ways)
-Super speed
-The ability to pass through solid objects
-Manipulation of shadows into physical form
-Transformation (aside from Baskerville he can become fog or bats, but he rarely does this and often only does it for effect)
-Regeneration
-Summoning the souls of those whose blood he has sucked in a variety of forms that either sprout from his body or swarm about him as an army numbering in the thousands.
-Immunity or great resistance to the weaknesses most vampires possess (staking him, cutting off his head and setting him on fire will not work. However, crosses and holy water have the same painful effects on him as they do other vampires).
-The ability to absorb blood in through his clothes and skin.
-The ability to hibernate (surviving for a VERY long time without feeding)
Also, he does not have “lumpies” like other vampires. His game face is always on, all of his teeth are sharpened and his canines are exaggerated. Why this is no one knows.
** Contrary to his claims, the vampire Buffy has met was not Dracula. He was merely a vampire who, tired of not getting the fear and respect he felt he deserved, piggy-backed on the name of Bram Stoker’s newly published book.
